The internet has an undeniable influence on everyday lives and on the progressive future of our society. Yet an influx of fake news and online misinformation has a growing negative impact on our lives and our future outcomes. Given the important role of digital technologies in solving society’s biggest problems, is it time to reimagine the internet? We’ll be joined by author and tech expert Ben Tarnoff on 7 March from 13:30-14:30 to discuss the future of the internet, drawing on insights from his new book Internet for the People: The Fight for Our Digital Future. Ben will be in conversation with Laurie Smith, Head of Foresight Research for Nesta’s Discovery Hub, our strategic foresight arm responsible for considering the consequences of emerging technologies. Ben and Laurie will explore private control of the internet in more depth and consider what this might mean for social innovation given the important role of digital technologies.
